Weird sounds in my ears a lot?

I'm 14 years old, and for a long time now (like since I was 6-7 years old) I get a weird ringing sound in my ears. Well, not exactly ringing, but I don't know how to describe it. It's gotten more frequent over time. My mother lost some of her hearing pretty young and she has this ringing, too, and she has a hearing aid for it. So, I want to know: Can hearing loss be hereditary? Is it hearing loss? What can I do to make the sounds stop? It's not all the time, but I notice it the most at night and when it's pretty quiet around me. It's really annoying! I have noticed that it is mostly in my right ear, and I can't hear in the right ear as well as in my left ear. Help! I'm too young to lose my hearing!
