In reference to the show survivorman...?

is it me or is this guy full of S***. I was watching a show sometime back, and the guy was fishing for salmon as they were attempting to go up stream to spawn, however, from "National Geographic" i understand that they (the salmon) do not eat while they are attempting to swim up stream to spawn...so was he full of it on this particular subject, or will Salmon eat at that time???
